Birdy Rose vs. transgender people

Birdy Rose is a British artist and anti-transgender propagandist. Rose publishes as “The Famous Artist Birdy Rose.”

Background

Birdy Rose was born on March 14, 1985 in Brighton, England. Rose earned a bachelor’s degree in 2006.

Rose’s first recorded group exhibition took place in 2007, and a first solo exhibition in 2009. Between 2010 and 2012, Rose participated in a series of regional shows, with exhibitions in 2010, 2011, and 2012. In 2013, Rose’s work entered a public collection for the first time. A second major solo exhibition followed in 2014. From 2015 to 2017, Rose’s career is marked by annual international exhibitions. In 2015, Rose exhibited in Europe; in 2016, in North America; and in 2017, in East Asia. A mid-career survey of Rose’s work was held in 2018. Rose received a notable arts fellowship in 2019. Activities during 2020–2021 were limited during the Covid pandemic. In 2022, Rose returned with a new body of work, followed by exhibitions in 2023 and 2024. As of 2025, Rose continues to live and work in England, with ongoing projects dated beyond 2026.

Rose is in a long-term relationship with musician Paul Short, aka “Doozer McDooze.”

Anti-trans activism

Rose signed the 2020 ‘Sunday Times’ open letter supporting J.K. Rowling.

Rose’s artwork has engaged with trans topics. In October 2020, Rose wrote of a new #LoveWins project: “I am launching this design as a print and a t-shirt to help me raise the funds for cease and desist letters.” Rose claimed to be the target of “an entire harassment campaign” over Rose’s anti-trans views.
