GLAAD Accountability Project and transgender people

American LGBTQ media watchdog GLAAD maintains the GLAAD Accountability Project (GAP), which “monitors and documents individual public figures and groups using their platforms to spread misinformation and false rhetoric against LGBTQ people, youth, and allies.”

Background

The GLAAD Commentator Accountability Project launched in 2012. The original list included 36 commentators. In December 2016, GLAAD launched the Trump Accountability Project, later renamed the Trump Accountability Tracker.

In 2021, GLAAD relaunched the original initiative as the GLAAD Accountability Project (GAP).

Anti-trans activists

Most people listed on the GLAAD Accountability Project hold anti-trans views, but for some it is a focus of their activism. These include several people also listed on this site. Overlapping coverage includes Ryan Anderson, Tucker Carlson, Harmeet Dhillon, Riley Gaines, Germaine Greer, Alex Jones, Megyn Kelly, Patrick Lappert, Helen Lewis, Julia Mason, Paul McHugh, Piers Morgan, Candace Owens, Pamela Paul, Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan, J. K. Rowling, Ben Shapiro, Abigail Shrier, Jesse Singal, Debra Soh, and Mark Steyn.

Podcaster Jesse Singal was “furious” at being included and posted a lengthy rebuttal, which led to being defended by Dan Savage, Katie Herzog, Matt Taibbi, Jo Bartosch, Jamie Kirchick, and Chad Felix Greene. Singal became a cause célèbre in anti-trans publications, including Spiked, The Glinner Update, The Hill, The Atlantic, Bayswater Support, and Hot Air.
