Elaine Miller vs. transgender people

Elaine Miller is a Scottish physiotherapist, performer, and anti-transgender activist. Miller is affiliated with anti-trans hate group Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine (SEGM) and Clinical Advisory Network on Sex and Gender (CAN-SG).

Background

Miller earned a bachelor’s degree from Glasgow Caledonian University in 1993, the worked as a physiotherapist. Miller is a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

In the mid-2010s, Miller developed and performed in the one-person show Gusset Grippers, about pelvic floor health. Miller performed the piece under the persona “Gussie Grippers” and toured various underground performance festivals.

In 2023 Miller ran as an independent candidate in Edinburgh Corstorphine and Murrayfield, earning 327 (3.7%) votes.

Miller and spouse are parents of three children. Miller became involved in pelvic floor health issues after experiencing incontinence associated with childbirth.

Anti-transgender activism

In 2022, Miller developed and performed in the one-person show Viva Your Vulva: The Hole Story. That piece was criticized for being anti-transgender, and Miller claimed to have been “shunned by long-time colleagues” due to the play.

In 2022 Miller was investigated after flashing a merkin (pubic wig) in the Scottish Parliament to protest the Gender Recognition Reform Bill, which was being debated. Miller was cleared by police of any wrongdoing.

In 2025, Miller wrote:

Gender interventions can use surgery and hormones to reshape or remove healthy organs, redistribute fat, muscle and hair in order to masculinise a female body or feminise a male one – but to date, 100% of gender interventions have failed. Not one single person has changed sex, your sex remains stable regardless of what you do to your body or persuade yourself is true.

Gender clinics should be honest about the limits of their abilities – to describe these interventions as “changing sex” sustains the delusion or distress of some and fuels the erotic euphoria of others. The profession which once hid cancer now hides reality, still describing its paternalism as kindness.“

Miller was announced as a speaker at Rethinking Youth Gender Medicine, a 2026 conference held by hate group SEGM and CAN-SG.
