Susan Dalgety vs. transgender people

Susan Dalgety is a Scottish politician, writer, and anti-transgender activist. Dalgety has written dozens of anti-trans articles for The Critic, The Spectator, The Times, The Scotsman, and The Herald. Dalgety and Lucy Hunter Blackburn co-edited the 2024 anti-trans anthology The Women Who Wouldn’t Wheesht. Dalgety has appeared at events organized by anti-trans groups Labour Women’s Declaration, Woman’s Place UK, FiLiA, and For Women Scotland.

Background

Susan Ann Dalgety was born in August 1956. Dalgety attended University of Glasgow. During the 1980s, Dalgety wrote for regional newspapers before joining the Press Association, covering Scottish news and politics. Dalgety later became Scottish Political Editor for the Daily Record.

Dalgety served as head of communication for the Scottish First Minister Jack McConnell.

In the early 2000s, Dalgety left full-time journalism to work in communications and public policy. Dalgety served as Director of Corporate Affairs for the Scottish Prison Service.

Dalgety married economic researcher Nigel Guy. They have two adult children.

Anti-trans activism

Starting around 2018, Dalgety got more vocal about anti-trans views, eventually emerging as a prominent voice in anti-trans activism. In 2019, Dalgety was a signatory on the anti-trans Labour Women’s Declaration. Dalgety later left the Labour Party.

In 2023, Dalgety and Lucy Hunter Blackburn founded Ethel Writes. In 2024, they released the anthology The Women Who Wouldn’t Wheesht.
