“Mazy Edwin” / Mazy Kerling and transgender people

“Mazy Edwin” is the stage name of Mazy Kerling, an American massage therapist, musician, and ex-transgender activist.

Kerling has used a number of names and handles, including:

Background

Megan Elise Wahlquist was born on February 10, 1995 and grew up in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. In 2010, at age ~15, Wahlquist made a social transition and began using the name Jack. Having reportedly grown up in a “turbulent household,” at age 17, Wahlquist left home and ended up living at the Booth Brown House homeless shelter operated by The Salvation Army in St. Paul. In 2014, Wahlquist made a legal name change to Jack Edwin Wahlquist, often performing music under the name Jack Edwin.

In 2015, Wahlquist began offering a publication called “Willpowerful: Independence in Adolescence.” Based on self-determination theory (SDT), the publication outlines options for young people seeking autonomy, “even from abusive or authoritarian environments and relationships.”

In 2016, Wahlquist began offering services in “conflict resolution and nonviolent communication.” That year, Wahlquist moved to New Hampshire for the Free State Project, a political migration movement that seeks to have adherents move to New Hampshire and create a stronghold for libertarian ideas. Wahlquist says “the year I spent there destroyed me.” Wahlquist participated in the Porcupine Freedom Festival and the Freecoast Festival while selling kratom, an herbal stimulant promoted by some for managing opioid withdrawal. Wahlquist reportedly lived and worked “on a really bizarre farm” before leaving and living unhoused in a small town in the state: “In mid-December of 2016 I had a Dissolution experience, that some people might call ‘an ego-death.’” Wahlquist claims that while living in a house with other adherents, “I was basically targeted as the main cause of the conflict, and ended up being literally outcasted from my home- ultimately based on lies, rumors and an incomplete story.” Wahlquist’s romantic relationship with another adherent ended, and Wahlquist returned to Minnesota.

In 2019, Wahlquist worked for CommonBond Communities at Kimball Court aka American House, a permanent supportive housing site in St. Paul, Minnesota. Wahlquist left after seven months and submitted a report to Minnesota Housing outlining various criticisms. Wahlquist cited anti-trans activist Christopher Rufo in claiming that “housing first” policies do not work. In 2025, the report was submitted to the City Council. noting that Wahlquist now went by Mazy Kerling).

In 2019, Wahlquist and Chase Storm Gielda launched the podcast Into the Agora, which frequently discussed self-transformation and New Age topics with guests. They produced 15 episodes.

In 2020, Wahlquist was reportedly fired from a role as a Youth Outreach Worker with StreetWorks through Safe House project of Lutheran Social Services in Minnesota. According to Wahlquist, “The first domino in this disaster was when I asked a female coworker on a date.” Wahlquist reportedly faced other accusations about workplace conduct and was reportedly required to go through implicit bias training. When Wahlquist refused unless certain “boundaries” were in place, Wahlquist was reportedly fired.

In the early 2020s, Wahlquist moved to the Austin, Texas area, working as a youth mentor and giving music lessons.

In 2021, Wahlquist (as “Nemo Sundry”) launched the New World Chaos podcast with co-hosts Jeff Fullington and Neil Barnes. Many episodes promote autonomy, right-wing anarchism, and mysticism. Others criticize “wokeness,” hosting guests including anti-trans activist Ben Appel. Their featured channels include Benjamin Boyce, Jodi Shaw, Jordan Peterson, and the LGB Alliance.

In 2025, Mazy married Dylan Kerling and took the name Mazy Jane Kerling.

Ex-trans activism

Prior to making additional gender changes, Kerling blamed “social justice” for various bad experiences:

“I have suffered repeated and extreme ostracism over Social Justice, a dominating ideology in the Twin Cities, Minnesota, where I’m from. This has been consistent for all of my life, with exception of the year I spent in the Free State Project in New Hampshire. I strongly believe the root cause of Social Justice is childhood sheltering, and this has completely damaged the very foundation of youth development and wellbeing.”

On March 5, 2023, Kerling had a profound religious experience: “The power that rushed through me and the information was multi dimensional and crystal clear. I felt like superman for a month. This post was made the morning after, before I truly knew how fundamentally I was healed and changed. I didn’t begin to experience detransition and perceiving as a woman in a whole new way until mid April. What I shared here was just the beginning of the wisdom God has given me.” Immediately after, Kerling posted:

Faith is not hope. Hope is clinging to something in the future; you NEED the future to be better, to save you from your suffering. Hope is passive- hoping for someone to save you. FAITH is a choice. An active choice. Choosing to take a leap of faith on someone or something reveals your values: Even knowing it might fall apart, you might get hurt, the relationship falls to pieces or you fail in your best attempts. You have DECIDED that risk is still worth taking the leap.

You CANNOT connect to that meaning and truth if you do not take a leap of faith on other human beings. Someone has to be worth it. Only you can make this choice.

When you have found something that is so meaningful, so fundamental, so true, it is worth the pain and loss in life. It is worth the struggle, it is worth the possibility of failure. That is when you have connected to the most fundamental meaning. Because there is a deeper state than the success and failure in this world. A deeper state where, connection to that meaning- your mission, truth, purpose- is far greater than any “worldly success” could ever be. In that connection, you are free.

Around mid-April Kerling began making additional gender changes. In August, Kerling posted a song about “detransition,” and in early 2024 posted a long video sharing beliefs and theories about “transgenderism,” “LGBT culture,” and “Social Justice.” In April 2024, Kerling posted an hour-long autobiographic video: “This is a story of death and rebirth, a story of revival after nonexistence. After a woman has an otherworldly mystical experience, she is changed deeply, physically inside out. The change is so profound, she detransitions from being a transgender man after 27 years. She embarks on an investigation, a journey to paint the spiritual realm- and the Creator of the universe, as she witnessed it.”

Kerling runs a Discord channel called “Trans & Detrans.” In 2025, Kerling did interviews with Benjamin Boyce and spouse Leslie Elliott Boyce. In 2026, Kerling spoke on panels at an event held by Partners for Ethical Care, sponsored by Colorado Principled Physicians Education Committee (CPPE), Resilience Health Network, Gays Against Groomers, XX-XY Athletics, and detranshelp.org.
