LGB Christians vs. transgender people

LGB Christians is a British anti-transgender website that promotes LGB separatism. In 2026, Amnesty International UK published two reports on anti-rights groups in the United Kingdom, listing LGB Christians in the “gender critical” category.

Background

LGB Christians was officially launched at the LGB Alliance conference on October 27, 2023 in London. Their announcement stated:

“The conference, â€˜A Question of Courage’ will feature expert speakers including Simon Edge and Simon Fanshawe, two of our supporters. […] Visit us at our stall alongside other groups including Sex Matters, Gay Men’s Network, Bayswater Support, Transgender Trend and more!”

In a report on the event, they mentioned the following visitors to their booth:

  • Barry Wall, EDUJester blogger and Youtuber
  • Sarah Mapstone, campaigner
  • Maya Forstater, research fellow, executive director of Sex Matters thinktank, and women’s-rights campaigner who successfully sued her employer for discrimination
  • Richard Collumbell, gay and workplace rights campaigner at SEEN
  • Clive Simpson, podcaster, presenter of “The Queen’s Speech“
  • Az Hakeem, psychiatrist and author of DeTrans, and other topical books
  • Kate Harris, lifelong feminist and lesbian activist and a co-founder and trustee of LGB Alliance
  • Simon Fanshawe, author and broadcaster
  • Helen Joyce, journalist and author; 
  • Ritchie Herron, detransitioner and campaigner who is suing the NHS for fast tracking him towards sex-change surgery without adequate safeguarding; 
  • Peter Bottomley MP, Father of the House of Commons; 
  • Julie Bindel, journalist, feminist, and lesbian campaigner; 
  • Malcolm Clark, documentary filmmaker for television; 
  • Richard Kirker, LGB Alliance patron and former Chief Executive of the Lesbian & Gay Christian Movement
  • Tony Green, former press officer for the Lesbian & Gay Christian Movement

Anti-trans activism

Most of their activity since the 2023 launch has been writing blog posts, submitting letters to editors of religious publications, and holding small social gatherings.

In 2024, LGB Christians released a promotional flyer and a poster.

On July 11, 2026, LGB Christians held its first in-person “national conference” in Wolverhampton, hosted by Tina Beattie. The goals included addressing how to

  • “overcome the isolation felt by gender-critical LGB supporters”
  • “raise questions about the influence of gender ideology and misogyny on your church”
