Protect and Teach vs. transgender people

Protect and Teach (also styled Protect & Teach) is a British website that posts anti-trans content about educational policy.

Background

The website was launched in 2024 by “five women and one man” with the following mission:

“We propose to protect children in education. We intend to keep our children, our grandchildren, our nephews and nieces, children in the care of the state as well as your children and grandchildren safe from gender ideology which is sweeping unchecked through educational establishments, children’s services, children’s clubs and associations, children’s television programs, children’s books and children’s entertainment.”

The group reportedly has three trustees, but it is not a formally registered or recognized organization.

In 2026, the site moved to a different domain and announced it was in the process of getting a CIO.

Anti-trans activism

One of the few things they created themselves was a bizarre leaflet containing QR codes and anti-trans slogans. including:

  • No child is born in the wrong body
  • Change society not your child!
  • 2 sexes, 3 sexualities (Straight, Homosexual, Bi-Sexual)
  • Social transition can lead to medication – for life
  • It is impossible to change sex

In 2026, the site was named in reports by Amnesty International UK on the “gender critical” faction of the country’s anti-rights movement. On July 13, 2026, Chair of Trustees Cathy Mudge sent a letter to Amnesty that stated in part:

I write on behalf of Protect and Teach, a small grassroots organisation run by just three trustees. We exist solely to support parents and protect children by promoting transparency, evidence-based education, and legitimate parental involvement in schools.

Protect and Teach is not a funded lobbying organisation, nor are we affiliated with any political party or ideological movement. We are an independent organisation established to help families when schools are unable or unwilling to address concerns about curriculum content, safeguarding, and ideological approaches in education. Our work focuses on:

  • Greater transparency so parents can understand what is being taught.
  • Protection of children from premature or contested ideologies presented as uncontested fact.
  • Upholding parental rights and balanced, age-appropriate education.
  • Promotion of safeguarding, child protection, education and the welfare of children and vulnerable people.

Our overriding concern has always been the protection, wellbeing and safeguarding of children. By naming Protect and Teach in a report that associates organisations with extremism or hostility, Amnesty has created a false and damaging impression about our organisation, our volunteers and those who work with us. Labelling a tiny volunteer group like ours, with only three trustees, as part of an “anti-rights” or “hate” movement is disproportionate and risks silencing legitimate parental voices. Many families feel excluded or intimidated when raising concerns, as evidenced by reports of schools issuing exclusion letters or dismissing parental input.
