Rene Jax is an American author and ex-transgender activist. Jax gets money and attention by making it harder for others to get trans healthcare.

On a deleted personal site with a “biography” page, Jax wrote:
[T]he very most difficult writing exercise was when I had to write my own bio for my author page on Amazon. I just didn’t know where to start. So, feeling very uncomfortable about the whole thing, I made my biography up. Yep, I fabricated one, complete with fictional family and life. It turned out pretty good, if I say so myself. So, keeping in that vain [sic], the bio’s on this Bio page will be of my own insane imagination. I will change them from time to time for shits and giggles. I’m currently in the process of writing a book filled entirely with made up bios.
The “biography” was then changed several times between 2017 and 2018.
Biographical claims
Jax was reportedly born in 1955: In another source, Jax claimed to be born in 1953 or 1954: “In 1977, I was a 23-year-old man working at De Anza College in California.” In another source, Jax is described as age 60 in 2018, which Jax also stated in a profile. Jax reportedly is the youngest of three siblings and grew up in a conservative family.
According to a deleted Substack post by Jax: “I had struggled with being a man since my father died when I was 14. He couldn’t deal with my mother’s mental illness, and he flew the coup [sic] after years of fighting the urge to do so. Suddenly I was her caretaker, her nurse, her parent, and sadly her lover.” Jax’s birth parent was reportedly a patient at The Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan, in Denver, Colorado. While accompanying this parent at age 14, Jax reportedly read The Transsexual Phenomenon by Harry Benjamin.
Jax claimed to have gone on hormones “when I was 17.” Jax reportedly moved to San Francisco around age 20. Jax reportedly made a social transition in around 1977: “The tipping point for me was when my wife left me for another woman.” After coming out, Jax’s birth parent reportedly cut off all contact and remained unsupportive until dying.
In 1980, Jax was reportedly sworn in as a San Francisco Patrol Special Officer in San Francisco’s Castro District and has claimed to be “the first transgender cop.” Historian Zagria Cowan notes that there were a number of trans police officers prior to 1980. Jax claims to have experienced discrimination over the next three years from other officers and had to work without a backup. This reportedly led to an injury from a drug addict that left Jax “unable to walk for six months.”
Jax left the job and was reportedly homeless. Jax claims to have worked as a dominatrix and got addicted to crack cocaine.
According to an article by ex-trans activist Walt Heyer, Jax “had gender-change surgery from male-to-female (MTF) in 1980.” However, according to Jax, “After 12 years of cross living, I eventually went all in and in 1990 had a complete sex change.” Jax reported being a patient of Stanley Biber for bottom surgery and having top surgery in 1992.
Ex-trans activism
Around 2016, Jax began expressing regret and urging others not to make a gender transition. That year, Jax self-published a book titled Don’t Get on the Plane! Sex Change Surgery will Ruin Your Life.
In 2017, Jax spoke at a Gender Identity Forum panel at Cornerstone Church in New Hampshire after testifying at the New Hampshire legislature. In the introduction, the moderator said Jax “worked for 25 years as a project manager for software, mostly for banks.” In the speech, Jax claims that the trans suicide attempt rate is about 50%: “every other person.”
On the deleted Rene Jax book club website, Jax stated:
“I have yet to see any of my friends, or my friend’s friends have satisfying lives, in the long run. I believe that the LGBT community is not hindered by homophobia, or transphobia, but by our own biology. And it is our biology that drives every aspect of our lives. Openly living as gay or transsexual can never be completely satisfying, due to this single, solitary reason. I know that now.”
In 2018, Jax testified in the California Senate Judiciary Committee against AB 2119, a bill to provide trans healthcare for foster children. In 2018, Jax appeared with ex-trans activists Billy Burleigh and Walt Heyer in the short propaganda piece Detransition: I Want My Sex Back.
In around 2018, Jax launched a website on Bravenet that was later deleted. In August 2018, Jax started a Twitter account that was later suspended.
Elisa Shupe email leaks
In 2019, Jax was corresponding with the network of anti-trans and ex-trans activists later exposed by former ex-trans whistleblower Elisa Shupe.
On February 15, 2019, Michelle Cretella wrote to Jax, Hacsi Horvath, Elisa Shupe, and Walt Heyer:

On April 4th, I will give a 45 min power point presentation to the Committee of 10 Bishops from the United
States Council of Catholic Bishops that is responsible for drafting transgender guidelines for America’s
Catholic Hospitals, physicians and health systems.I am entitling it “A Cry for Help NOT Hormones” and will cover the science as it pertains to kids & adults;
underlying (anti-Christian) worldview and societal ramifications.Would the four of you allow me to use a head shot of each of you on my title slide? I want the Bishops to
know I am talking about REAL people.
Jax wrote in response that day:
Yescertainly. Also you can tell them I am working with the Archbishop of Vietnam on putting together presentation there to their youth goups. Jackie
On September 18, 2019, Jax wrote in response to an article in The Federalist on the gender clinic for youth at Oregon Health and Science University:
Dear Team
After reading about the Oregon Hospital and their gender program, I can not describe the horror that I personally feel. My mental illness and gender dysphoria came out of a broken home with a drunk for a father, and a mother who was mentally ill who sexually abused me. The mental torment that I felt growing up was horrific. GD has played a key part in all of my relationships and life decisions.
To this very day I suffer from the consequences that GD has had on my life. But the doctors I dealt with were all, uniformly reluctant to allow any individual to pass through the ultimate gate towards SRS. They all understood it was a last resort for the desperate.
And to think that any medical institution would further and promote the debacle that GD has on young people is nothing less than vile and despicable in the extreme understand that multiple factors has caused ROGD epidemic. But for anyone in the medical community to do what Oregon medical community has done is criminal.
How can we stop this? We must stop this. How?
On January 19, 2020, Elisa Shupe commented to Andre Van Mol, warning that Jax is “another Scott [Newgent],” another activist with surgical regret whom Shupe did not trust. Shupe added: “Ona side note, you can imagine what my thoughts are in regard to why someone like Jax would be ina place like Vietnam? AKA, sex tourism countries.”
Van Mol wrote in response to Shupe:
Ah, there I can help. He advises business/corporations on security. Former investigator in San Fran. Cost of living is very low in Viet Nam compared to US, and so he is not in the squeeze Hacsi is in financially. Plans to move to the Malay border with Singapore. Thus all the conveniences of Singapore are proximal while the cost is minimal. Also, as you likely noticed, he is rather doomy and gloomy that the USA is not just in decline but going down. Thus the āmove to a farm and raise pigsā bit he repeats for how people can guard their kids against the trans movement.
Van Mol wrote in response to Shupe:
I and Michael Laidlaw spent an entire day in Sacramento with Jackie/Rene and had several/many e-mail exchanges with him. He testified that day along with Michael (admittedly, I was there in case something dropped and I needed to fill in). Also, he was shopping for prices on detransing surgeries, waiting on Medicare to kick in, and seemed to be considering the timing to detrans. Heās got rough edges O plenty and admits it. He mostly lives in Viet Nam these days, which is no place to engag lective surgeries. Yes, heā surely a work in progress. I donāt know Scott ā though I suspect diagnostic items about Scott ā so I cannot compare them.
I think the elitism and emotional lability of the way trans activists reflects narcissism, narcissistic wounding, emotional immaturity, adverse childhood events, and so forth. All here know the studies showing enormous rates of personality disorders, most likely narcissistic, and Zucker and Blanchard donāt seem shy about saying that either. But, we canāt fix personality disorders for someone else.
Iām reading in Proverbs these days and there are repeated verses about holding oneās tongue, not engaging the foolish, and so forth, so for this SD battle and likely the oneās in Texas and Georgia, Iā1ll be focusing on holding my tongue while simply maintaining certain lines without dismissing people. Narcissists who donāt get their way but are not dismissed outright have a tendency of moving on when they s they simply wonāt get to be the prima donna of the opera.
Self-publishing, social media, and websites
In 2019, Jax had a Medium account on which the profile stated “Yes a real MTF post op TS. Against the entire idea of humans having a ‘gender’ We are only binary biological sex.” In 2021, Jax launched the website Life After Gender. In June 2022, Jax began blogging about ex-trans topics at renejax.com. In 2023, Jax launched a Substack that was later deleted.
In 2025, Jax signed an anti-transgender FDA petition on feminizing hormones as an “impacted patient.”
