Patricia Constantinian vs. transgender people

Patricia Constantinian is an American psychologist and anti-transgender activist. Constantinian is a member of anti-trans groups Gender Exploratory Therapy Association and Therapy First and spoke at the 2024 conference held by anti-trans hate group Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine (SEGM).

Background

Patricia Maggy Constantinian was born in January 1965. After earning a master’s degree at Columbia University, Constantinian earned a doctorate from Yeshiva University Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology in 2008, then did postdoctoral training at Haverford College. Constantinian is licensed by State of Pennsylvania (PS017552).

Anti-trans activism

Constantinian was a participant on anti-trans site 4thWaveNow. On April 15, 2021, Constantinian posted:

“The main challenge in the current gender transition discourse is that those who are treating kids and teens are just not operating from a position of complexity. Everything is split along trans/good:cis/bad. And parents who want to support their kids in a process of deeper exploration before committing to lifelong, irreversible physical alteration are discredited as transphobic. Iā€™ve started reading Dr. Sahar Sadjidiā€™s work based on her own ethnographic research at gender identity clinics. It has been eye opening for me and has convinced me even more that the ā€œspecialistsā€ are not thinking as deeply as they should be. In the end, we all want our kids to live happy, healthy, well adjusted lives and if gender transition is part of that, then most of us would support it. But the clinical and medical discourse has to be willing to accommodate a greater degree of complexity.”

The same day, Constantinian posted:

“Why has no one made an ethics complaint to the APA about [affirming psychologist Diane] Ehrensaft? Iā€™m a clinical psychologist and would gladly spearhead such an effort on behalf of 4thWaveNow.”

In 2024, Constantinian gave a presentation on “desistance” in the family at the 2024 SEGM conference. Constantinian was then on a panel titled “Desistance, detransition, and Medical Harm” with Dwight Panozzo, Paul Garcia-Ryan, and Sophie Frost, moderated by Alison Clayton. Constantinian was also listed in SEGM’s 2025 conference program but did not have an announced presentation.
