“Scott Veritas” / Matt Teitelbaum vs. transgender people

“Scott Veritas” is the online handle of Matt Teitelbaum, an American podcaster and anti-transgender activist.

Background

Matthew “Matt” Teitelbaum was born in March of 1995. While in college at Towson State University. Teitelbaum was president of the statewide organization College Democrats of Maryland.

Following the 2016 election of Donald Trump, Teitelbaum pondered a run for political office: “Before the election, Matt Teitelbaum, 21, saw his future as a behind-the-scenes political organizer for Democrats. Now the Towson University student is considering running for office in 2018. If there’s one thing he learned from this election, it’s that anything is possible. ‘If Donald Trump can be president, I can be a member of the House of Delegates or a member of the Central Committee,’ Teitelbaum said.”

In 2017 Teitelbaum made news after defending a campus appearance by anti-trans extremist Milo Yiannopoulos. Teitelbaum then started writing more pieces about “free speech,” such as praising Megyn Kelly for interviewing Alex Jones.

Eventually, Teitelbaum stopped claiming to be a Democrat and started promoting the intellectual dark web via a podcast titled Going Dark from 2019 to 2020. Teitelbaum then hosted a podcast called Red Pill Nation from 2020 to 2021 before hosting The Veritas Podcast from 2021 to 2023 and platforming a significant proportion of anti-trans guests.

Teitelbaum then joined the conservative William F. Buckley Institute as a development associate. According to Teitelbaum’s Buckley Institute profile:

Matt Teitelbaum is the Development Associate at the Buckley Institute. He began his career as a nonprofit fundraiser in 2018 after moving from his home state of Maryland to Chicago, Illinois, where he now lives with his fiance. Matt has a long history of free speech advocacy that goes back to his own time as a college student at Towson University. Shortly before graduating in 2017, he was interviewed by journalist Tucker Carlson about controversial statements he made as a student leader criticizing his fellow students for disrupting and attempting to intimidate conservative speakers on campus.

Anti-trans activism

In a reddit post seeking another co-host, Teitelbaum said “I am a huge fan of Blocked and Reported and actually found my current co-host by posting on this subreddit.”

Teitelbaum’s podcasts were particularly focused on transgender people. Guests included many key people in conservative and anti-transgender activism.

Going Dark (2019–2020)

In late 2019 through July 2020, Teitelbaum started a podcast titled Going Dark: An Intellectual Dark Web Podcast. Teitelbaum’s co-hosts were “Peter” and “Jack.” The show featured topics related to the intellectual dark web. The show was later unlisted on YouTube and the Twitter account was deleted.
