Background

Alex Pierson was born on October 17, 1971 in Hamilton, Ontario. Pierson began a broadcasting career in 1995 at CHML/Y95 and CHCH TV news. After working at the New VR, CKAL-TV in Calgary and CKVR-TV in Barrie, Pierson joined CityTV/CP24, anchoring CityNews at 11 with Mark Dailey until 2006. Pierson joined Global News in 2007.

Anti-trans activism

Pierson frequently comments on negative stories about trans people in the news.

Pierson recommended conservative trans woman Julia Malott for a panel on Canada Tonight with Travis Dhanraj. Via the National Post:

“In early 2024, I received an unexpected call from Travis. He was putting together a panel debate for Canada Tonight and wanted to know if I’d be willing to participate. He had gotten my number from Toronto radio host — and mutual friend — Alex Pierson, who had suggested my name when Travis asked for right-leaning voices that might bring ideological diversity to his primetime segment.”
