Emelie Schmidt is an American ex-transgender activist. Schmidt made a social transition in high school, then made additional gender changes. Schmidt has since given numerous interviews and testimony attacking trans healthcare.
Background
Emelie Anne “Emmie” Schmidt grew up in Texas and attended Port Neches-Groves High School near Beaumont. In high school, Schmidt used the name Jacob while socially transitioned. Schmidt was later a dancer at Temptations Beaumont in Beaumont, Texas.
In testimony cited in an appeal in Texas v. Loe, Ken Paxton noted:
Emelie Schmidt is a woman who experienced depression, anxiety, and what was diagnosed as rapid-onset gender dysphoria as a minor. 4.CR.1664; 3.RR.251:16-20. At age 14, she joined an online transgender community, where others encouraged and affirmed her feelings of gender dysphoria. 3.RR.247:17-248:13, 251:16-25; 4.CR.1664-66. Emelie testified that she was never more suicidal and depressed than during this time. 4.CR.1665; 3.RR.251:6-9. She socially transitioned at school, but she did not undergo any medical treatments. 3.RR.249:3-15; 4.CR.1666-67.
Schmidt posted:
At around 15-18 I was deep in the trans community. This community made me hate my parents. They made me believe that my parents hated me because they wouldn’t let me start hormones. This hatred convinced me to leave home at 18. I soon resorted to stripping as a way to survive, this is where I met a couple who would soon groom me further and traffick me.
Schmidt has gone by Emelie Sullivan, worked as “Faith McCoy” while doing sex work, and is married to John-Paul Schmidt.

Ex-trans activism
In the Texas v. Loe, appeal, Schmidt was cited with other anti-trans activists: “At the hearing, Defendants presented testimony from only Dr. James Cantor, Dr. Michael Laidlaw, Katrina Taylor, Dr. C. Alan Hopewell, Colin Wright, Dr. John Perrotti, Emelie Schmidt, and Soren Aldaco.”
In 2024, Schmidt spoke at a Katy, Texas school board meeting urging the board to ban trans-supportive books. The board already prohibited “gender fluidity” content in classrooms and instructional materials. The new board policy extended that prohibition to library books. Schmidt said:
“As a child, I was groomed to be trans. My school had a huge part in this,” Schmidt said. “Growing up, I was always a tomboy and didn’t quite fit in with the girls. Trans-focused media led me into having gender dysphoria when I was around 14 years old. […] Soon my whole life became surrounded by trans everything. This made me believe that my body was wrong and needed fixing with hormones and surgery,”
Schmidt has also supported bills banning transgender athletes from competing in sex-segregate sports, stating in 2023:
I am for this bill and I’m representing myself. It is unfair to biological women to compete with biological men. Males have more muscles as well as larger muscles, lungs and hearts. They have a biological advantage and it is not fair for them to take titles and spots scholarships away from biological women. If they want to compete they should compete with their male classmates. Hormones do not lesson their muscles nor change the size of their hearts and lungs.
On May 20, 2025, Schmidt was a signatory on a letter from Independent Women’s Forum to Congress supporting the “Protect Children’s Innocence Act” introduced by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. It was also signed by Prisha Mosley, “Chloe Cole,” LaRell Herbert, Pear Joseph, Annika Bigeleisen, and Simon B. Amaya Price.
