Sonia Poulton vs. transgender people

Sonia Poulton is a British writer and anti-transgender activist.

Background

Sonia Poulton was born in August 15, 1964 in Cirencester.

Poulton’s early career was in the music industry. In 1992, Poulton launched Go for the Juggler Limited, an independent music company which managed artists and released music. It lasted one year. Poulton has also operated the corporations Truth and Integrity Limited and SoniaPoulton.com Ltd.

Poulton has one child.

Anti-trans activism

Poulton is active on social media criticizing transgender people and their allies.

In 2019, Poulton attended an event organized by Standing for Women titled “First Do No Harm – the ethics of transgender healthcare.”

On June 2, 2019, Poulton joined a group of prominent anti-trans activists and conservative trans people in signing an open letter in the Sunday Times attacking trans-supportive youth advocates Mermaids and Girlguiding.

In November 2019, Poulton was a signatory on the Labour Women’s Declaration. The anti-transgender online petition is a seven-point declaration that allegedly promotes “sex-based rights,” but it was created to oppose rights based on gender identity and expression that would benefit trans and gender diverse people.

In a 2021 Twitter post criticizing US President Joe Biden, Poulton wrote:

“I get called TERF because I believe women have a right to our own sports, prisons, refuges & spaces and because I believe children should be protected from people who seek to sexualise them and to confuse them about who they are. Happy to stand for what I do. #BidenErasedWomen”
