Martín Endara-Coll is a biochemist, blogger, and anti-transgender activist. Endara-Coll has co-authored writing for anti-trans hate group Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine (SEGM).

Background

Martín Endara-Coll is based in Barcelona. Endara Coll earned a master’s degree in genetics and genomics at the University of Barcelona, then pursued a doctorate at Stockholm University before dropping out. Endara-Coll then pursued a master’s degree in philosophy.

Anti-trans activism

Endara-Coll began writing on trans topics in 2021. Almost all of it is in Spanish and focuses on Catalonia and Spain, though Endara-Coll also covers developments in the UK and the US. Endara-Coll argues that medical transition for young people has expanded faster than the evidence supporting it, and that Spanish institutions, media, and activist groups have avoided scrutiny of that gap.

Endara-Coll’s work clusters around a few recurring themes. The largest is clinical practice and evidence, including pieces on hormone prescribing in Catalonia, a series on why it has “skyrocketed” and on patients getting younger, on gender-affirming mastectomies in the UK, and a 2026 piece arguing that Spain still lacks a systematic review of the evidence for medical transition.

A second theme is scrutiny of statistics used in policy, most fully in “El bingo del paro trans” (2025), which traces the sourcing of trans unemployment figures used by Spanish governments and unions.

A third theme is science communication and media: Endara-Coll’s El Común essays on science journalism and on what counts as “truly scientific,” a criticism of coverage of “non-binary skeletons,” a 2026 piece arguing the Catalan fact-checker Verificat does not do genuine fact-checking, and a 2023 report on TV3’s News Council denouncing pressure over a documentary on transgender people. Endara-Coll has also written on related policy and legal topics, including Catalonia’s subsidies for hiring trans people, a review of Miquel Missé and Noemí Parra’s book on adolescents in transition, the Peggie v NHS Fife legal case in Scotland, and a piece on Lili Elbe, whom Endara-Coll deadnames and calls “the Danish man.”

The most sustained thread in Endara-Coll’s work is criticism of Trànsit, the Catalan public health service that provides gender-identity care under an informed-consent model. Endara-Coll began with a two-part series in September 2022, one part profiling its founder, Rosa Almirall, and the other examining its informed-consent approach. In “Grietas en el muro” (El Común, November 2022), Endara-Coll drew on a Feministes de Catalunya report to argue that Trànsit’s patient profile had shifted from mostly adult men toward adolescent girls, with minors making up a large share of patients, and that the Generalitat had released only incomplete data. Endara-Coll followed with pieces on Trànsit’s monitoring committee (2023), an English-language overview of the service (June 2023), and a Crónica Libre investigation suggesting it might be breaching the protocol for minors with dysphoria (June 2023). Endara-Coll alleged that Trànsit kept an “unofficial” surgical waiting list that included minors (October 2023), described the Catalan health department requiring it to change its Facebook page (December 2023), and examined its training programs for “transpositive” professionals (April 2024). In 2025, Endara-Coll criticizeded a study comparing trans healthcare models in Catalonia, arguing it did not resolve the open questions about outcomes. Across these pieces Endara-Coll’s central argument is consistent: that Trànsit operates with little transparency or published outcome data, and that the Catalan model should be evaluated against the evidence reviews that led countries such as the UK, Sweden, and Finland to restrict youth transition.

2022 PRISMAS conference incident

In November 2022, Endara Coll was reportedly asked to leave a session of the PRISMAS conferences held at the University of Barcelona, a series promoting queer perspectives in science. According to a report in conservative Catholic publication Hispanidad, attendees said they did not feel safe with Endara-Coll present
