Marie Rogerson vs. transgender people

Marie Rogerson is an American anti-transgender activist. Rogerson served as director of development for right-wing extremist group Moms for Liberty.

Background

Marie D. (Garner) Rogerson was born in December of 1982. Rogerson grew up in a military family with five siblings. Rogerson’s parent Brent Garner unsuccessfully ran for a school board in Kansas when Rogerson was an adolescent.

Rogerson earned a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University–Idaho. At age 21, Rogerson served for 18 months as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving Spanish-speaking migrants in California. Rogerson then studied abroad in Latin America.

In 2006, Rogerson married Aaron Rogerson (born 1984). They have three children. Marie Rogerson is a cancer survivor.

Rogerson served as Director of Operations for Foster Florida from 2018 to 2021 and fostered 13 children in one year.

Anti-trans activism

Rogerson unsuccessfully ran for school board in 2020. After Rogerson’s friend Tina Descovich also lost a school board election that year, they began holding “Madison Meetups” to study the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and other founding documents.

After Moms for Liberty co-founder Bridget Ziegler stepped away from the group shortly after its founding, Rogerson took Ziegler’s place on the executive board.

Rogerson went through training at Leadership Institute to help run successful school board campaigns.

In 2021, BuzzFeed News reported on a conflict over LGBTQ school policies that involved Rogerson. In March 2021, Florida’sĀ Brevard County school district rolled out expanded guidelinesĀ on protections for LGBTQ students. Tina Descovich posted the new guidelines and urged parents to protest the school board meeting on March 9, with an assist from anti-trans extremist Randy Fine, who represented Brevard County in Florida’s House:

Two days after Descovich shared the new guidelines, Fine posted a video on his Facebook made by Marie Rogerson, an executive board member of Moms for Liberty. It claimed that the guidelines allowed ā€œbiological males to use the same restrooms and locker rooms as biological females,ā€ accused the school board of lying in 2016 when it first passed LGBTQ protections, and said that the school district would allow these guidelines to happen without informing parents. The video then gave the time and place of the school board meeting, saying, ā€œBe there. For the kids.ā€

Anti-trans protesters attempted to storm the meeting and had to be restrained by sheriff’s deputies.

BuzzFeed’s Ema O’Connor wrote that shortly after the meeting, Fine “cosponsored a bill banning trans girls from playing on girls sports teams and allowing schools to request a medical examination of students’ genitals to determine whether they are eligible to participate.” Rogerson was paid to do campaign work for Fine.

Rogerson left Moms for Liberty in April 2024 to serve as director of grassroots engagement at Leadership Institute. In August 2024, Rogerson was elected as Republican state committeewoman, and anti-trans Congressmember Randy Fine was elected as Republican state committeeman.

In April 2025, Rogerson was named deputy chief of staff for Randy Fine. On August 5, 2025, Fine won a special general election for U.S. House Florida District 6. The Brevard Republican Executive Committee (BREC) sought to remove Fine as Florida State committeeman primarily due to allegations that Fine failed to meet attendance requirements and neglected “core responsibilities” of the position. Fine resigned on November 24, 2025 and was replaced by Josiah Gattle.
