Background

Laura Jennifer (Bryson) Haygood was born in March of 1968. Haygood earned a bachelor’s degree from Rice University in 1991 and a medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1995. Haygood completed a residency in dermatology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 1999.

In 2001, Haygood established Adagio Dermatology & Aesthetics PA in Tyler, Texas. Haygood is a principal in the companies Laura J Haygood MD PA and Lark Consulting and Management LLC.

Haygood married Kenneth “Ken” Haygood while in medical school. They have two children, Ryan and Ashley.

Anti-transgender activism

In 2024, FAIR in Medicine published an open letter condemning the American Psychiatric Association for publishing the 2023 book Gender-Affirming Psychiatric Care. The signatories were prominent anti-transgender activists around the globe and included Haygood.

In 2024, Haygood was a signatory on an amicus curiae brief submitted to the Supreme Court in United States v. Skrmetti.

Haygood is a director of anti-trans organization Texas Principled Physicians. In 2025, Texas Principled Physicians and Haygood as an individual were listed as a signatories on a citizen petition submitted to the US Food and Drug Administration, seeking to restrict or ban off-label use of feminizing hormones.
