Rumble is an online video platform popular among conservative and anti-transgender activists. Rumble also hosts Truth Social, created as a conservative alternative to Twitter.
Background
Rumble was founded on October 30, 2013 by Chris Pavlovski as an alternative to YouTube. During the 2020 COVID pandemic, prominent conservatives complained that YouTube was censoring their content. Rumble’s monthly unique visitors rose from 1.6 million to 31.9 million by 2021.
Rumble received investment from venture capitalists Peter Thiel, Vivek Ramaswamy and JD Vance in May 2021. In October 2021, Rumble acquired Locals. In December 2021, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) announced that it entered a “wide-ranging technology and cloud services agreement” where Rumble would operate part of Truth Social and TMTG. Rumble became a publicly traded company in NASDAQ in September 2022. In May 2023, Rumble acquired the podcasting platform CallIn. In 2023, Rumble won exclusive rights to livestream the Republican presidential primary debates.
