Women Won’t Wheesht vs. transgender people

Women Won’t Wheesht is a Scottich anti-transgender organization primarily active in 2023 and 2024.

Background

The name was inspired by the social media hashtag #WomenWontWheesht popularized by anti-trans activists in 2020. The founders stated that the group got organized in 2023:

“The idea for Women Won’t Wheesht events started on a Ferry, somewhere on the Irish Sea, when we were coming back from a weekend in Belfast at Let Women Speak. There had already been a couple of events (prison protest & the Candlelit Vigil), but we wanted to be more organised, have regular events & wanted to give women who couldn’t travel to Edinburgh or Glasgow (whether due to caring responsibilities, mobility or financial constraints) the opportunity to attend real life events.” 

Women Won’t Wheesht was incorporated on May 22, 2024.

Anti-trans activism

Women Won’t Wheesht has held a number of candlelight vigils / “speaker’s corner” events across Scotland:

In 2023, they held a Halloween Ball / Witches Gala.

The group helped promote Alloa Women’s Festival on March 23, 2024. On November 2, 2024, Women Won’t Wheesht held a Winter Party with Glasgow Tactical Feminists and the Scotland chapter of Women’s Rights Network.
