Pediatrics and transgender people

Pediatrics is a medical specialty focusing on healthcare for infants, children, adolescents, and in some cases, young adults. 

In 2018, the American Academy of Pediatrics released a policy statement called Ensuring Comprehensive Care and Support for Transgender and Gender-Diverse Children and Adolescents (PDF). This document recommends the affirmative model of care.

Transgender pediatricians

Rachel Levine is a transgender pediatrician who became Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services for Planning and Evaluation in 2021. She is the first transgender American to hold an office that requires Senate confirmation.
