Tracy Shannon vs. transgender people

Tracy Shannon is an American anti-transgender activist. Shannon identifies as a “trans widow” whose former spouse came out as transgender. Shannon is a strident opponent of trans healthcare and drag performances.

Background

Tracy Lynn Shannon was born in Houston, Texas and grew up in Texas. Shannon earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in 1997.

Shannon’s family moved to the Humble, Texas area in 2008 and enrolled their children in Humble ISD schools.

After Shannon and spouse divorced, in 2010, Shannon began volunteering in classrooms and parent–teacher organizations. Between 2012 and 2015, Shannon served in various PTA leadership roles. In 2016, Shannon joined district advisory committees and continued through 2019, helping organize community forums on curriculum transparency and student support resources. During 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Shannon got more involved the district’s response. Throughout 2021 and 2022, Shannon continued to attend board meetings and community listening sessions. In 2023, Shannon announced a run for the Humble ISD Board of Trustees. In 2025, after coming in second to Brittnai Brown, Shannon filed a successful complaint to have Brown declared ineligible.

Shannon and former spouse have three children. Shannon later remarried and now has four children.

Anti-trans activism

Shannon’s first spouse began a medical gender transition in 1998. In 2009, Shannon’s spouse changed names and came out. They divorced soon after. In 2025, Shannon revealed to conservative radio host Michael Berry that they had a custody lawsuit in 2010: “We ended up going to court after several years of marriage and him having a secret life behind my back and deciding he was going to go through with a transition. We went to the family court in Texas, where I was divorcing a legal woman on paper because the state of Texas allowed his documents and ID to be falsified, and so in court I was pressured every day to use preferred pronouns or potentially be held in contempt.”

In 2018, Shannon founded the Houston chapter of right-wing extremist group MassResistance. In 2019, Shannon began protesting drag events at local libraries and schools amd was supported by anti-trans extremist Steven Hotze.

In 2020, Shannon began publicly discussing being a “trans widow.”

In 2021, Shannon and anti-trans extremist Kevin Whitt co-founded the website The Whitt Project, along with member Jen Loh. In 2022, Shannon and Whitt launched the Facebook page Culture Warriors for America. Also that year, Shannon and others attempted to place Matt Walsh’s anti-trans children’s book Johnny the Walrus in Texas libraries. In June 2022, Shannon launched the X/Twitter account AskATransWidow.

In 2023, Shannon submitted a comment supporting Texas House Bill 3502, which proposed requiring health insurance companies to cover “detransition.” Shannon also testified in support of Texas Senate Bills 14 and 162 banning trans healthcare for minors.

In November 2024, Shannon revealed information in a since-deleted post on X that outed Shannon’s former spouse, leading to a reply by anti-trans account HeCheated that further outed Shannon’s former spouse. Shannon then posted: “The amateur golf orgs like VSGA follow USGA rules which allow men to compete as women….they think woman is a hormone level or absence of testicles, apparently.” In April 2025, Shannon again outed the former spouse to Michael Berry, sharing links about the former spouse. In December 2025, Shannon posted: “My ex won 4 consecutive Ladies Golf Championships but he grew up on the golf course playing from the men’s tees shooting par. He was killing it until the rule change preventing males who have had mle [sic] puberty from playing in the women’s.”
