Pilgrim Tucker vs. transgender people

Pilgrim Tucker is a British community organizer, housing campaigner, writer, and anti-transgender activist.

Background

Tucker earned a master’s degree from SOAS University of London in 2002 and a master’s equivalent from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 2005. Tucker worked in New Zealand as a Citizen Enagement Co-ordinator for the North Shore City Council from 2008 to 2010, then returned to the UK to work as a User Involvement and Diversity Officer at Shelter UK from 2010 to 2012. Tucker was a Community Coordinator for Unite the Union from 2012 to 2016.

Tucker has written and campaigned about social housing, the Grenfell Tower disaster, and Labour Party politics.

In 2018, Tucker entered a doctoral program at the Open University, researching the history of housing in North Kensington.

Anti-trans activism

In February 2018, Tucker became publicly involved in opposition to proposed changes to Labour Party policy concerning the inclusion of self-identifying transgender women on all-women shortlists. On February 27, 2018, Tucker spoke at a Woman’s Place UK meeting in London.

In 2023, Tucker launched a legal challenge against the Open University, alleging discrimination, harassment and victimization connected partly to holding gender-critical beliefs. Tucker claimed to be unable to continue the doctoral program.
