“MJ Murphy” is the stage name of Jane Foody, an American yoga teacher, physical therapist, and anti-transgender activist. Foody frequently posts anti-trans content on social media.

Background

Jane Elizabeth Foody was born on January 11, 1985. Foody reportedly has a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Foody began practicing yoga as an adolescent and has spoken and written about yoga at a number of venues and media outlets. Foody has operated the business Yoga Jane.

Foody was married to musician James “Jim” Cobb (1985–2019) and had a child with Cobb in ~2015.

Foody co-hosted the Dickstraction podcast. In 2024, Foody produced the 2024 Hudson Valley Comedy Festival.

Anti-trans activism

Foody is an adherent of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), a pseudoscientific approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy. Foody has self-published two books on NLP practices: Date Like A Mind Reader, and Breaking the Spell.

Starting in 2025, Foody began posting “NLP breakdowns,” videos on social media analyzing transgender women and gender diverse people using NLP techniques. Foody frequently misgenders and insults the subjects of these videos, which have included Sarah McBride, Hunter Schafer, and Judith Butler, as well as less notable people. Foody has also analyzed comments by anti-trans activists, including J.K. Rowling and “Billboard Chris.” Foody livestreams a video series titled Gender Files.

Foody operates a merchandise store titled Phobic AF featuring anti-trans slogans.
