Katy Hurd is an American physician and anti-transgender activist. Hurd is the medical director of Beyond Trans and a member of The Killarney Group, projects of anti-trans hate group Genspect.

Background

Katherine G. “Katy” Hurd was born on November 20, 1979. Hurd has described having a “history of gender dysphoria.”

Hurd attended Wheaton College before attending University of Washington. Hurd earned a bachelor’s degree there in 2001 and a medical degree in 2005.

Hurd has practiced at Snohomish Family Medicine, Pilgrim Africa, Unity Health Care, and MedStar Health. In 2015, Hurd joined Optum (formerly The Everett Clinic).

Anti-trans activism

Hurd spoke at the “Life Beyond Transition” conference, part of Detrans Awareness Day 2026 organized by Genspect. According to a 2026 post by Bernard Lane:

“A non-profit medical clinic for US detransitioners is in planning, a historic meeting of 70-plus detransitioners hosted by Genspect in Washington DC has heard. Katy Hurd, a Seattle-based family physician with her own history of gender dysphoria, told the March 12 Life Beyond Transition conference that the needs of detransitioners—including their complications from hormonal treatment and transgender surgery—represented an “abominable” gap in healthcare. She said the proposed Seattle area clinic might open a year after a start is made with a telehealth service in six months or so; some US$500,000 in funds would have to be raised.”
