Jeff Evely vs. transgender people

Jeff Evely is a right-wing Canadian veteran and anti-transgender activist. Evely is the unaccepting parent of an adult transgender child who began transition as a teenager.

Background

Jeffrey “Jeff” Evely was born and raised in Coxheath, Nova Scotia. Evely enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces following the September 11, 2001 attacks. Evely served in multiple overseas deployments before retiring from the military in September 2021.

After retiring, Evely got involved in Canadian conservative politics.

In August 2025, Evely deliberately violated a ban on walking in the woods during fire season and was fined about $28,000. The ban was found to be unconstitutional in 2026.

Evely ran in 2025 as a People’s Party of Canada candidate for Sydney-Glace Bay, coming in fourth with 1.2% of the vote.

Anti-trans activism

In 2023, the anti-LGBTQ “parental rights” website Hands Off Our Kids was launched. Evely was named spokesperson.

Hands Off Our Kids held a 1 Million March for Children event on September 20, 2023 that was met by a larger group of protesters. Community Solidarity Ottawa created a parody site of the group with information about founder Kamel El-Cheik, noting that “Kamel is so homophobic that the 2023 Million March suffered a split between Kamel and Dana Metcalfe, a former lead organizer, because she wasn’t homophobic enough. […] Kamel accused [former lead organizer] Dana Metcalfe of taking advantage of his brand and working with Gays Against Groomers and/or Gays Against Grooming (an affiliated organization) without his consent. Kamel would eventually denounce the website set up by Metcalfe, who he himself worked with to mobilize the 1 Million March, calling her website for nationwide #1MillionMarchforChildren protests “a political group trying to hijack the campaign.”

In 2024, Evely launched the website Mayday Canada. According to a biography on the website:

Jeff is a 20-year veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, and the father of a victim of gender ideology. While deployed to Iraq, in 2019, his daughter turned 16 – the legal age of consent, in Ontario. The Children’s hospital of Eastern Ontario started calling her phone directly, to encourage her to attend the adolescent gender clinic, for biomedical transition. He took leave from Iraq to attend those appointments, and what those so-called “doctors” said to him was shocking. He has been alienated from his daughter since 2023, and she had her healthy breasts removed last September, at the age of 22.  He was a co-organizer (nationally) for the 1 Million March 4 Children, and remains spokesperson for Hands off Our Kids.
