Mitra N Forouhar vs. transgender people

Mitra N Forouhar is an American lawyer, artist, and anti-transgender activist. Forouhar is associated with anti-trans hate group Genspect.

Background

Mitra Nasreen Forouhar was born in December 1963. Forouhar earned a bachelor’s degree from State University of New York at Binghamton and a law degree from Catholic University of America in 1990. Forouhar then earned master’s degrees from Boston University in 1992 and UniversitĂ© de Genève.

Forouhar later took courses at London Fine Arts Studios in 2010 and earned a master’s degree from Glasgow School of Art in 2013.

Forouhar served as human rights advisor for Norwegian energy company Statoil ASA (now Equinor) and later filed a lawsuit, alleging the position was a public relations move.

Anti-trans activism

Forouhar represented ex-transgender activist July R. Carlan, aka “Shape Shifter,” in a lawsuit against Fenway Health.

In 2023, Forouhar was an author of Genspect publication The Gender Framework, a guide for anti-trans therapists seeking a “non-medicalized” approach to gender. 

In 2024, Forouhar filed an amicus curiae brief on behalf of Joseph Burgo, Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism, and Genspect in US Supreme Court case US v. Skrmetti.

On December 2, 2024, Forouhar, Ilya Shapiro, and Edmund LaCour participated in an online discussion sponsored by Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism titled “The Skrmetti Case: What Should We Expect? SCOTUS to Hear Challenge to Tennessee’s Ban on “Gender Affirming” Medical Treatments for Minors.”
