Older Feminist Network vs. transgender people

Older Feminist Network is a British website that sometimes engages in anti-trans activism. The site describes itself as “a small collective of mainly retired older women volunteers without full-time paid workers or researchers.”

Background

Older Feminist Network (OFN) was formed in 1982 as an initiative from Spare Rib magazine’s collective. OFN meets about twice a month, and members attend events and co-sign letters. Their mailing address is via the Women’s Resource Centre in London.

Their current website went live in 2013.

Anti-trans activism

OFN had never posted anything anti-trans until around 2024, when Laila Namdarkhan and Wendy Knight began posting on their blog and lending OFN’s names to anti-trans open letters.

OFN was a signatory on a 2024 letter objecting to trans activist Munroe Bergdorf being named a representative of UN Women UK. They also gave input on a visit by anti-trans activist Reem Alsalem of the UN. Also in 2024, OFN criticized a factsheet about transgender topics created by Age UK and praised the Cass Review.

OFN held a stall at FiLiA’s 2025 conference. OFN was named in Amnesty International UK’s 2026 reports on anti-rights groups as a “gender critical” organization.
