GLAAD is an American media watchdog organization that monitors and reports on media issues. Their focus is sex and gender minorities, and they have done more than any other organization in history to improve media depictions of our community.
GLAAD was founded as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. In keeping with their initial mission to fight defamation, they have a convenient way to report defamation.
Accountability Project
Of particular interest for this project is the Commentator Accountability Project, which is one of the indices used in The Transphobia Project. In 2021, GLAAD relaunched their Accountability Project with expanded listings:
The GLAAD Accountability Project documents anti-LGBTQ words and actions from politicians, commentators, organization leaders, journalists and other public figures who are often quoted in mainstream media about LGBTQ issues. The Project will be continually updated with additional research and GLAAD will continue to alert journalists and the public to the record as LGBTQ issues are debated and reported.
