Sonya Douglas vs. transgender people

Sonya Douglas is a Beritish artist and anti-transgender activist. Douglas is an advisor to anti-trans group Sex Matters.

Background

Sonya Joy Elizabeth Douglas was born in January 1971. Douglas studied art at Newport College of Art and Design. In 2005, Douglas founded PaterArts to promote STEM projects through the arts.

In 2009, Douglas co-founded Tailbone Productions with Joanna Owen and Graham Stephens.

Anti-trans activism

Douglas is a member of anti-trans group Women’s Rights Network and serves on the adivsory board for Rosie Kay’s anti-trans group Freedom in the Arts.

In a Sex Matters profile, Douglas stated:

“I know what it is to feel betrayed by one’s own body. I’ve felt the fear of change, a dread of the inevitable and the unknown; and I know what it is to hate one’s body; to make deals with a future self, and to gamble on feelings; so I can state with the simplest clarity of truth: everything changes, except your biology. Knowledge, understanding, feelings, illnesses (even terminal ones), decisions, convictions, nightmares, and the things that satisfy – they all change, they all move on, they even pass away; but the meat and bones and material matter of you remains, and must be dealt with; must eventually be dealt with. That’s why sex matters.”
