Martha Wexler is an American editor and anti-transgender activist. Wexler is affiliated with anti-trans group Democrats for an Informed Approach to Gender (DIAG).
Background
Martha A. Greenberger Wexler was born in October of 1952. Wexler earned a bachelor’s degree from Bryn Mawr College in 1973 and a master’s degree from Harvard University in 1976. Wexler was an editor at NPR from 1998 to 2008. Starting in 2008, Wexler was a freelance editor at NPR’s Morning Edition and Weekend Edition. Wexler has since retired.
Wexler was married to satellite executive Yuli Wexler (1947–2022) for 43 years. They have two children.
Anti-trans activism
According to the DIAG website:
“Martha began delving into the transgender phenomenon after noticing abrupt changes in the language used by the media: pronouns that did not reflect reality, euphemisms, and obfuscations. Her interest in Soviet history (she has a master’s degree in Soviet Studies) made her sensitive to ideological capture and intolerance for opposing views. Martha joined DIAG to fight the harms of gender ideology—the denial of biological reality, the medicalization of gender-distressed young people, and the violation of women’s rights. She is working to burst the information bubble in which liberals operate.”
Wexler is listed as DIAG media contact.
In 2026, Wexler spoke at an anti-trans rally outside the US Supreme Court, following oral arguments in the cases West Virginia v. BPJ and Hecox v. Little.
“Please consider these questions: what is a woman, and what does it mean for a woman to get a fair shake? Surely you know. Do not betray your sex in your zeal to signal kindness to troubled males who claim a female identity. Democrats for an Informed Approach to Gender also has a message for our Democratic lawmakers across the street and in statehouses across the country: listen to the voters. 80% of the American public, including two-thirds of Democrats, want to save female sport for actual women and girls. Please, Democrats, do not die on this hill. Reclaim your legacy of defending the rights of women and children.”
