Jay W. Richards is an American conservative activist with the Heritage Foundation.
In July 2025, Richards was a panelist at the 2025 US Federal Trade Commission anti-trans workshop.
Background
Jay Wesley Richards was born on July 12, 1967. Richards earned a bachelor’s degree from Southwestern University in 1989, a master’s degree from Union Theological Seminary in 1993, a master’s degree from Calvin Theological Seminary in 1994, and a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1999.
In 1998, Richard joined the Discovery Institute and has been involved ever since.
After working at the conservative Acton Institute from 2005 to 2008, Richards was a visiting Fellow at The Heritage Foundation in 2009 and 2010. During that teim, Richards was an editor for The American, a publication of the American Enterprise Institute. Following a fellowship at Institute for Faith, Work & Economics, Richards hosted the Catholic show A Force for Good in 2017 and 2018.
From 2014 to 2022, Richards held an appointment as Assistant Research Professor in the School of Business and Economics at The Catholic University of America.
In 2021, Richards rejoined the Heritage Foundation, and in 2022 was named Director of the DeVos Center for Life, Religion, and Family.
Richards is the author or editor of fourteen books, including two New York Times bestsellers; as well as Money, Greed, and God, winner of a 2010 Templeton Enterprise Award; The Human Advantage; and Eat, Fast, Feast. His most recent book is Fight the Good Fight: How an Alliance of Faith and Reason Can Win the Culture War. Richards’ articles and essays have been published in The Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Washington Post, and The New York Post.
