A note on terms

Takatāpui is a traditional Māori (te re0) term that translates loosely to “intimate companion of the same sex.” Some use it to embrace all Māori sex and gender minorities, including whakawāhine (loosely meaning “trans women”), tangata ira tāne (loosely meaning “trans men”).

Health

New Zealand’s national healthcare for our community has a reputation for extremely long wait lists for service. Some kiwis who can afford it choose to get private healthcare out of pocket or engage in medical tourism overseas.
